The dance of shapes: Marino Marini meets Igor Stravinskij
A story by Luca Scarlini
Pianist: Antonio Artese
Music by Igor Stravinskij
In 1951, Marino Marini met Igor Stravinskij in New York, when he exhibited at the prestigious Curt Valentin gallery. Marked by a portrait of the Russian composer that sparked his enthusiasm, a friendship was born that was to last a lifetime. A connection with the theater, from which the artist from Pistoia, draws his vast repertoire of clowns and acrobats – images of existence – meets once again with the stage. In 1972, one year after the death of the composer, Marino realized a theatre project at La Scala with an inventive edition of The Spring Festival. This was the only proposal accepted by Marini for a collaboration with the stage, after refusing to sign a project with friends and admirers such as Mauro Bolognini and Aurel M. Milloss. This story shows a sign of respect for Stravinsky, and of his piano music, which also tells of meetings with Samuel Barber, to whom Marini also dedicated a portrait.
The recited part of the show will be translated into LIS for non-hearing audiences.
Seating on a first come first served basis, limited occupancy.
Free entry.
